YOGYAKARTA – The organizing committee of the International Djogja Earthsound Fest 2026 (#IDEF) has officially launched a call for papers for researchers worldwide. Under the overarching theme “Sacred Music, Ecological Spirituality, and Cultural Preservation,” this conference aims to re-examine the role of ritual music and sacred sounds in addressing the challenges of the modern environmental crisis.

This activity, carried out in collaboration with the Indonesian Ethnomusicology Society (MEI), will be centered at the campus of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta from July 21 to 25, 2026. This forum is expected to be a meeting point for fresh ideas regarding the cosmology of the Nusantara and how the transmission of traditional knowledge can be maintained amidst changing times.
Research Scope
The committee welcomes manuscript contributions related to four main sub-themes: ritual music in Nusantara cosmology, sacred soundscapes and the environment, the role of music in ecological crises, and efforts to revitalize traditions. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a rigorous curation process to ensure the quality of the scientific discourse produced.
Agenda and Deadlines
The manuscript submission series begins with abstract collection, which is open until June 8, 2026. Participants who pass the selection on June 15, 2026, are required to submit their full papers no later than July 6, 2026. The main conference event will be held on July 23, 2026, followed by the article finalization process for publication needs until September 2026.
Benefits and Publications
As a form of appreciation for the intellectual contributions of participants, selected articles have the opportunity to be published in the Journal of Urban Society’s Art, which is indexed by SINTA 2. In addition, other manuscripts will be published in international proceedings with an ISBN/ISSN number free of charge.
