About Us
The Department of Theater opened in 1985 under the Faculty of Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. The Department of Theatre opens a Dramaturgy study program that focuses on the realm of theatrical science which is the main support for theatrical works. The courses offered aim to develop knowledge in the field of theater which includes dramaturgy, literary knowledge, cultural studies, and theater creation. In 2000 the study program was developed into the Theatre Arts Study Program by opening the main interest in acting which was then followed by other interests, namely writing, directing, and artistic arrangement. In 2020, the Department of Theatre Arts became a theatre study program that focuses on research to develop theatre science and theatre creation by expanding the distribution of works in various performance spaces and media of expression supported by digital technology.
Graduate Profile
The profile of graduates of the Theatre study program is to become Theatre scholars who actively respond to the development of performing arts, able to create new opportunities with analytical and creative power, sensitive to new ideas of performing arts, able to distribute and communicate new ideas of Indonesian Theatre art to the world, so that graduates have the opportunity to become theatre researchers, actors, directors, playwrights, artistic stylists, and can continue their studies to a higher level.
