The Head of Music Department, FSP ISI Yogyakarta received a visit from Professor Christine Mauco from Poiters University, France.

Friday, April 22, 2013, the Head of the Music Department received a brief visit from Christine Mauco, professor of musicology from the Conservatoire de Poitiers, the University of Poitiers, France. The request for the visit, which was mediated by the Indonesian-French Institute (LIP), had previously been notified in advance, both by telephone and officially by letter. Accompanied by a LIP staff member, Mauco was received directly by the Head and Secretary of the Music Department in the Department's courtroom.

The meeting began with a brief introduction from the Head of the Department who gave an overview of ISI Yogyakarta, the Faculty of Performing Arts, and the Department of Music. Furthermore, Prof. Mauco introduced the education system at his university which then detailed music education in Poitiers. Music teaching in Poitiers is organized in three institutions: conservatory, CESMD, and university. The conservatory provides a basic music and dance education for children aged six and seven with a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes per week. This basic education is then followed by two four-year periods of advanced basic training in instrumental studies, choir, ensemble, performance, music theory, etc. At the end of the second period the learning outcomes are evaluated and those who pass and are interested can proceed to a further education of two to four years of professional introduction to obtain the DNOP or National Diploma for Professional Orientation. Graduates of the DNOP can then progress to higher levels to achieve full professional competence.

There are three access points for DNOP graduates to continue their studies at university level, especially at the University of Poiters. The first is direct access to undergraduate studies in musicology at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, and then continue to higher education levels, namely master's and doctoral degrees in musicology. The second is selective access to study at the CESMD program or the Center for Higher Education in Music and Dance, which is a performing arts education institution in collaboration with the Department of Musicology. This program offers a double degree diploma or double deree to its graduates, namely the Bachelor of Musicology and the National Higher Diploma for Professional Musicians. However, CESMD education does not provide studies for all instruments but only certain types of instruments, namely string, saxophone, piano, and ancient or historical instruments (recorder, transverso, organ, cembalo. Luth. Theorb, viola da gamba, violin, viloncello, and ancient singing styles).

Prof. Mauco ended his presentation with the offer that the Poitiers Conservatory as well as the CSMD are open to prospective international students, for short six-semester programs, exchange students for transfer credits, and visiting students. He also offered to collaborate with the Music Department to bring Poitiers musicians to give concerts and master classes through the mediation of LIP.

After the meeting Mauco was escorted by a piano student for a short tour around the Music Department building as well as the Public Lecture Building to explore and get a brief overview of our music learning process.
