Karawitan Short Course: Marga Sari & Gudang Panas Gamelan Group (Japan)

The Department of Karawitan FSP ISI Yogyakarta once again opened a space for international collaboration through the Karawitan Short Course 2025. In collaboration with Osaka Metropolitan University and Urban Resilience Research Center Japan, this program presents participants from Marga Sari and Gudang Panas Gamelan Group (Japan).

For 5 intensive days, August 18-23, 2025, the participants will learn the art of Yogyakarta and Surakarta style karawitan firsthand, through collective drumming classes and private classes. The program is closed with a special performance on 22 August 2025 as a form of appreciation for the learning process that has been undertaken.

The class was led by ISI Yogyakarta's Karawitan lecturers, Drs. Agus Suseno, M.Hum; Marsudi, S.Kar., M.Hum; Dra. Tri Suhatmini Rokhayatun, M.Sn; Dr. Raharja, S.Sn., M.M; Dra. Sutrisni, M.Sn; Aji Santoso Nugroho, M.Sn.

This program is not just about learning gamelan music, but also instilling perseverance, patience, love of tradition, and a spirit of cultural collaboration.
