A total of seven countries in the Asian region will attend The 21st Conference of Asia-Pacific Society for Ethnomusicology which was held on August 28 to 29, 2017 at the Concert Hall Building ISI Yogyakarta. The seven countries that participated in this conference were China, South Korea, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia involving more than 60 participants who presented abstracts on ethnomusicology.
IC-APSE 2017 Expert Council, Prof. Dr. Victor Ganap, M.Ed., said, holding this conference at ISI Yogyakarta has many advantages such as introducing to the world that ethnomusicology does not only study music issues but involves many things such as dance, puppetry, theater, fine arts, and crafts. Some of the abstracts are grouped into several sections including classical ethnomuscology such as discussing court music, folk music, rituals, ethnomusicology education, and applied musicology.
Committee Chair, Dr. Bambang Pudjasworo, added that the event was opened by the Director General of Science and Technology Resources of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Ali Gufron Mukti, M.Sc., PhD., and keynote speaker Professor of Music from Wesleyan University USA, Prof. Sumarsam, PhD.
